Code of Conduct
| 1. |
Have respect for authority figures, whether that is a tour guide, the person in charge of a field trip you are on, the leader of a game at Park Day, etc. Students need to understand that Chuck and Robyn Nordell are the administrators of the ISP and that the students are to obey their directives. Please teach your child that the adult in charge of a given activity has been delegated by the school (and you) to speak to them about, and to correct, inappropriate behavior. (1 Peter 2:13-17) Parents, please cooperate with, and show respect to the adults who are in charge of a field trip or a given activity, especially in regards to not carrying on private conversations which may be disruptive to the activity. |
| 2. |
Have an attitude of compassion for the differences, needs or disabilities of others. We need to teach our children not to be cruel to people who are different from themselves, as so often happens in schools. Also, our children are regularly around non-ISP children at Park Days and on some field trips. Please talk to your children about the importance of treating these non-ISP children with kindness and respect. (The "Golden Rule" - Matthew 7:12; James 2:1-9; Galatians 5:22-23) |
| 3. |
Act and speak in a manner worthy of the God who calls you. Unkind remarks, name calling, profanity, coarse jokes, conversations involving occult or sexual situations or other language unbecoming of a Christian is unacceptable at school functions. Also avoid knowingly wearing gang symbols. (Ephesians 4:1, 4:29, and 5:4; 1 Thessalonians 2:12) |
| 4. |
Parents and students - even though you may not have a problem with certain behaviors, actions, or style of dress within your own family, if you know something is likely to be offensive to someone else, please don't do it/wear it at ISP events!
We would ask you to think about such things as:
- language, including telling people to "shut-up" and using extreme sarcasm that can be hurtful and offensive (also see #3).
- scolding your children in front of others. When possible, please try to do this at least semi-privately.
- wearing clothing that may make it harder for young men to keep their minds pure (many parents of teenage boys are very sensitive to this issue).
- the content of electronic games, lyrics to music being played, bizarre action figures, etc. that your children may be bringing to ISP events.
- having respect for the property and landscape of the church property, parks, field trip locations, etc.
On the flip side, please exhibit a spirit of graciousness in dealing with our differences. (1 Corinthians 8:9-13; Philippians 2:3-5, 4:8; Romans 12:17b-18, 14:1-22; Colossians 3:17, 23, 24, Matthew 22:37-39)
|
| 5. |
On educationally-oriented field trips, come prepared to listen attentively and behave appropriately. Headphones or other distracting articles should be avoided. (Parents, please help your students to wait quietly for field trips to begin. Do not let your students run around or climb on fences or trees. Your children should be with you, with another designated parent, or standing or sitting quietly – depending on the situation.) (Matthew 5:16) |
| 6. |
The possession of weapons by students is not permitted at any ADCS functions. Parents and students - the use of alcoholic beverages or tobacco products, or the possession of illegal drugs (obviously) are not permitted during any ADCS functions. (Matthew 5:16; Romans 13:1). |
| 7. |
Wholesome friendships are encouraged between boys and girls. However, students should look upon one another as brothers and sisters in Christ and refrain from demonstrating personal affection at all school functions. (Galatians 5:24; Romans 12:10; Ephesians 5:3; 1 Timothy 5:1a-2) |
| 8. |
Clothing should be clean, neat and in good repair, modest in style and fit, should not draw undue attention (exposed midriff, exposed cleavage, excessively baggy or tight, bare back, short shorts or short skirts, exposed undergarments are all unacceptable); no exposed tattoos or body piercing (except earrings); no extreme hair styles, make-up or jewelry. (1 Corinthians 8:9-13; Philippians 2:3-5, 4:8; Romans 12:17b-18, 14:1-22; Colossians 3:17, 23, 24, Matthew 22:37-39, 1 Timothy 2:9) |
Parents, please sign and have your student(s) sign, to indicate that you and your student(s) will strive to follow this Code of Conduct at all ISP-related events.
